What I've Learnt from Our Social Media Architect: How to Turn a Video Into a Blog Post By Fiona Kesby
Content Hack: How to Turn a Video into a Blog Post - No Transcription Necessary
Step 1: Go to YouTube.com and sign in via your Google account
Step 2: Select YouTube Studio (beta)
Step 3: Switch to Creator Studio Classic
Step 3: Choose “I have an urgent task…” as your reason for switching back to Creator Studio.
Step 4: Once in the Classic Creator Studio, click on “Video Manager” if you have the video uploaded.
If not, upload your video, set the privacy settings (you can either categorise it as unlisted or private or public)
Step 5: Click on “Videos” and choose the video from your channel’s list.
Step 6: Click “Edit”
Step 7: Click on “Subtitles and CC”
Step 8: Click on “English (Automatic)” - your captions should then load on the left-hand side of the screen
If you want to clean the captions up before downloading, you may do so within YouTube by clicking on “Edit” above the video, on the right side of the screen.
If you prefer to clean up the captions on a separate doc, go to Step 9.
Step 9: Download the .srt file by clicking on “Actions” and choosing .srt from the dropdown list.
Step 10: Rename the .srt file and convert to a .txt file. Open the file in its folder, right-click, and then change the file extension from .srt to .txt

Step 11: Copy the contents to a Google doc and clean up your doc! Remove the time stamps, edit spelling, add or remove items that aren’t relevant.
Et voila! You have a full blog post for publishing (which can be cut down for social media posts!)
I hope you enjoyed this hack. This is was recently taught to me by Lean, our Social Media Architect - she is very clever!
