Are you and your team back in the office full-time? For most of us, that may still be months away, depending on how fast the vaccine rollout takes place. Why do some of us miss the office more than others do?

Virtual Assistants are people, they don’t have all the skills in the world to solve every problem your business has. You can’t find someone to do everything. You’ve got a look at those specialised fields and they specialise in that particular field and they do it really well.

If you need a high level of security from Go-VA, then the VA will enter into a PCI compliant office. Which means that team members have to use biometrics to enter that space, the computer systems have no USB on them. So no information can be taken off the computer, there’s no mobile phones allowed, no pens or paper. All the data is saved on my their databases in the cloud and nothing is saved within our environment.

The best test that you can give is a sample task of what they’re going to be doing every day. If you’re paying a little bit more you can get more experienced VAs. It works the same way as it does in any country, in any industry.

It really is anything that can be done in front of a computer. It could be web developers, IT support, electrical estimators, construction estimators, content writers, social media and marketing, legal assistance, outbound sales, appointment setters, bookkeepers, we can even find CPA qualified bookkeepers as well. There’s over 100 million people in the Philippines, it’s a really big talent pool.
You save between 50 to 70% of the cost of having a team member in Australia and that can also include your infrastructure costs such as computer, internet and electricity.

Jump online with your Virtual Assistant using a platform like Zoom. Share your screen with them, get them to record the session and show them how though you want that task done. They then keep that video which becomes the first training video of your suite of videos. They you ask them to write the Standard Operating Procedure for you. It does two things. A it saves you some time and B it gives extra learning to your Virtual Assistant. And then you know that they completely understand the steps that need to be taken.

The first thing is, work out what is the business goal? What do you actually want to achieve in 12 months time? Then look at what are the three tasks if done consistently, every day, would help us reach that goal. And then that is what you get that first VA to do.

There’s a good chance the people we surround ourselves with will influence the lives we lead.
If I “read” the room right, something I shared with the GO-VA tribe last September struck some team members hard.
This was the line that provoked an audible gasp and many nods of agreement: “I love you but I can no longer be with you.”
That line comes from the bestselling author and leadership mentor Robin Sharma, a former litigator who gave up a successful career in law to do what he truly loved: write books about personal mastery and leadership, and teach as many people as possible how to achieve both.
It’s safe to say Robin has been wildly successful on his new path.
During our Tea with the CEO and other team events, I often recommend writers and mentors whose advice I cherished. Newly regularised team members at GO-VA receive a copy of Robin’s Little Black Book for Stunning Success. This happens just six months after they receive Stephen R. Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People as part of their welcome kit.
But what Robin said about social networks was particularly timely.
How remarkable our lives can become will depend, in great measure, on the people we choose to surround ourselves with, at work and in other areas of life.
When we choose our peers, we choose our results.
It’s not new advice. “Water seeks its own level” says something similar.
But what makes it more urgent is the fact that we live in a time of unprecedented sources of distraction, especially from our online social networks and our screens.
We’re grateful for reminders to focus on what’s really important. At GO-VA, daily reminders to do so are provided by our Results Coaches, who emphasise living by our core values, particularly: Drive, Learn, and Find a Way.
It’s sad but in most cases, personal mastery may not be a popular choice.
“If you take a thousand people, how many people are interested in personal mastery, in being a leader? How many people stand for world-class?” Robin said. “Most people are interested in video games, in TV shows, in gossiping, complaining, and in just getting through the day. I’m not judging, just reporting.”
Part of what we love about being in GO-VA is that learning personal mastery and leadership isn’t only encouraged, but rewarded. Each month, team members who best showed how to apply each of our seven core values receive awards during our Lunch with the CEO.
“Use the standard of values” is Robin’s advice for deciding who we should surround ourselves with.
The advice I chose to highlight was this: “Speak your truth even when your voice shakes.”
I like to encourage team members not to be held back by self-defined limits, by pointing out how I used to dread public speaking. But with encouragement from my family, repeated practice, and a commitment to learning, I am grateful to report that I have come to embrace it.
And I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve received this year to speak before the Google Business Group-Cebu, Asia CEO Forum, Payoneer Forum, KMC CEO Forum, and a pre-event hosted by the organisers of the Asia-Pacific Women Startup Weekend.
If you’re excited to work and grow in an environment that emphasises care, encourages personal mastery, and empowers growth, we’d be very happy to meet you as well. Come join our tribe!
“Do a little more than you're paid to. Try a little harder than you want to. Aim a little higher than you think possible, and give a lot of thanks to God for health, family & friends.”
When you do things out of passion and from the heart, everything seems easy and then you're able to do a little bit more and go a little further. At the end of the day, it's your purpose and passion, grit and gratitude that will propel you toward true success.
Four years ago, my brother Matt Kesby - founder of GO-VA - asked me to take on the CEO role. I was completely on board with the idea! I was doing most of the role already in Cebu as Sales & Recruitment Director.
The only thing I was not totally sold on was the fact that I had to do a once-a-month CEO Presentation in front of the team. I was scared - no, terrified - of public speaking. I told Matt I couldn't do it! But my brother, being my number 1 supporter and motivator, reassured me that I am capable of doing great things, public speaking included. All I had to do was step out of my comfort zone and practice.
So I did it.
Every month, I practised and prepared myself to meet the team. At first, it all felt very foreign to me, but over time, I was able to gain confidence. Before long, the CEO Lunch Presentation became my favourite company event!
Other bodies, groups, and communities started inviting me to speak at events - and I'm so glad I didn't have trouble doing them anymore because I had already made peace with feeling comfortable outside of my comfort zone.
If I can do it, so can you! Take the first step; the rest will follow! Remember: you are brave enough to reach your dreams; resilient enough to face challenges that come along the way; and you are a remarkable individual, capable of doing remarkable things! Drop your self-doubt and quit limiting yourself - start believing in yourself, and your greatest dreams will begin to unfold.
Over the years I have recruited in many different industries (IT, Hospitality, Construction, Engineering & Recruitment), many types of positions (Admin to CEO, Blue collar to Engineering, Mainframe programmers to Java Developers) and in many different locations around the world (Australia, PNG, Fiji, Samoa, & Philippines), I have recruited on behalf of clients, internally for an employer and personally for myself and family businesses. My success rate has always been high. I often thought I had a sixth sense, until I read Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink!!
What I have applied in interviewing locally in Australia has served me well over the years and with international expat recruitment . Now applying my methodology to local talent in Cebu, Philippines with a different culture.
It is more than just the questions (email me at fiona@go-va.com.au and I will send you a list). Whether you choose to use a freelancer website, staff finding service or managed operations - the following 5 tips have helped me over the years and I hope it can help you too..
Yes it really is that easy - don’t over complicate it
Tip 1) The Resume is well formatted and the applicant has a history of longevity from previous employers. I personally look for 2 years plus +
Tip 2) Test.
English, many people have excellent spoken English - the key is Comprehension. Do they really understand what you are asking them? Set the standard high on English Comprehension. There are many free online tools. Test yourself first to set the benchmark.
Typing Test - heaps of free online to chose from. You want a fast accurate typist
Most important test is a sample of the work you need them to complete. Eg if you are a recruitment agency get them to reformat a resume or reply to an email.
Email written questions on a word document and ask them to complete. Pick from my top 20. This gives you a chance to see formatting, punctuation, sentence construction and grammar.
Personality Profile. Use the same one you would for your own team. If you have never profiled before try a free online test there are many. Test yourself first to help compare. A free one to get you started http://www.16personalities.com/. ESTJ from experience has been the best fit for a VA. Followed by ESFJ.
Tip 3)Use hobbies and interests as a bench-mark. Chose someone with similar interests to yourself. I always look for a healthy allrounder. And run a mile if an applicant tells you their main hobby is “surfing the internet”...they will be spending their work time watching youtube videos and online gaming.
Tip 4)Choose a VA that has lived or traveled in another country. My own personal team have all worked in Malaysia, Singapore, Middle East and even Australia. It shows they can step outside their comfort zone and have experience working with Foreigners. They get my sense of humor and have a very similar work ethic.
Tip 5)Set the bar high on quality, and I mean on everything from their resume, tests, appearance (meet them virtually online), written and verbal communication skills - and don’t compromise - EVER! It is a marathon not a sprint. Take your time to hire - I mean in the search and when you find the right one - offer fast.

There are so many tasks that a recruitment admin virtual assistant can do for you - I have a list over 44 in fact. Email me fiona@go-va.com.au and I’m happy to send you a copy.
Like us a VA can get stuck in the whirlwind of “busy”. Be strategic and focus on 3 - 4 primary tasks for your VA to do that keeps you in front of clients and candidates and away from your desk.
Here are my top 5 to choose from:
Chase the right leads at the right time
A Recruitment VA can research and pre-qualify leads so that you approach only those who may need or desire your service. No more talking to the wrong people or missing budget based on wasted time.
Never again attend an unconfirmed meeting
Have your schedule and travels plotted so you can squeeze in more appointments in a day. A Recruitment Coordinator VA will remind potential clients of meetings, update calendar invites, and find the most efficient routes through Google Maps.
Your CRM updated for you
Record your notes by voice after each meeting and email the audio file to your Sales Coordinator VA, who will send thank-you and follow-up emails. You’ll be able to keep track of leadership changes in a potential client’s company and remember to call that lead back in six months as promised — all without touching your CRM.
Your resumes formatted
Time is money, formatting resumes when you could be making sales calls is not an effective use of your time. Even worse burning the midnight candle to format resumes is not exactly work life balance we all aspire to.
Linkedin Searches
While you are at a meeting have your Recruitment Assistant search Linkedin to find a shortlist of suitable applicants and contact with a template introduction designed by yourself. By the time you return from your meeting a shortlist of prequalified candidates ready for you to contact by phone.
